In previous posts, I introduced to you the tea produced in Aichi, Nishio tea, but in addition, in Aichi you also have the opportunity to try tea from neighboring regions as is the prefecture of Mie.
Just a few steps from Nagoya Train Station, Shinryku Sabo Cafe brings you the “Ise tea”, grown and produced in Mie prefecture.
About Ise tea
Mie prefecture, specifically around Matsuzaka, is a mountainous area with coastal terrain, the average temperature, rain and required conditions are the best for green tea harvest.
In terms of cultivation and production levels, Ise tea holds the third place in the whole country. Several types of tea are produced, including fukamushi-cha (deep steamed tea), sencha green tea and kabuse-cha (covered tea).
The “Ise tea” is characterized by its thick leaves and its astringent taste, you can take it several times and it does not lose its flavor.
Tasting Ise tea
The coffee shop is located in an alley, so you may not see it the first time. Look at the green sign.
Next to the entrance there is a counter with tea products that are selling from the tea factory that owns the coffee shop.
A little further on is the counter with the individual seats and at the back is the hall with the tables. The coffee shop has approximately 25 seats. The atmosphere inside is calm and invites you to relax.
The menu has as main drink Ise tea. There are also Matcha Latte and Hojicha Latte. The dessert menu is quite extensive. They have ice cream, assorted parfait, matcha sponge cake, cheese and matcha cake, Japanese sweets, etc … Everything is home-made.
If it’s your first time, I recommend you try Ise tea and Nagomi Parfait (和 み パ フ ェ). They are also are the top recommendations of the coffe shop.
Ise Tea has 3 ways to take it.
The first way: is to pour the hot water into the teapot and wait until all the sand has gone down in the hourglass they give you (about 30 seconds). With this first cup the tea has a moderate sweetness and slightly soft flavor.
The second: pour hot water back into the teapot and wait for it to turn a bit cold (about 6 minutes). With this second cup the flavor becomes sweeter, more intense.
The third: add hot water into the teapot from the kettle they give you. You can drink even a fourth and even a fifth time without losing its flavor.
Nagomi Parfait is made with: matcha ice cream, matcha sponge cake dices, 2 dango balls (white balls made with rice flour), azuki (red beans), 2 chestnuts pieces, sweet jelly, matcha jelly and waffle biscuit. Super delicious! I can say that this is the dessert with the most intense matcha flavor that I have ever tasted.
